Spring Lake is a Monmouth County borough of about 1.3 square miles, bounded by the ocean, Lake Como, Wreck Pond and the railroad, about 41 miles from Penn Station in Manhattan in a straight line. It takes its name from the spring-fed lake near the center of town, crossed by wooden footbridges, and the borough was formed from Wall Township in 1892.

Two miles of beachfront run along what the borough calls the longest noncommercial boardwalk in New Jersey, past The Breakers on the Ocean and the Essex and Sussex. Downtown shops and restaurants line Third Avenue between Washington and Passaic Avenues, the Community House holds the theatre and library, and Spring Lake station on Warren Avenue is on NJ TRANSIT's North Jersey Coast Line.
