Voorhees Township covers about 11.5 square miles in Camden County, in the South Jersey suburbs of Philadelphia. It was created in 1899 from part of Waterford Township and named for Governor Foster McGowan Voorhees. Its Echelon section holds the Voorhees Town Center, the former Echelon Mall, which also houses the township's municipal offices, and Kirkwood grew up as a bungalow community beside Kirkwood Lake.

Parks and preserved land are a big part of the township. Connolly Park covers 49 acres and hosts a summer concert series, and the 140-acre Stafford Farm is kept half as open space with a walking trail and disc golf, and half as farmland, now Saddlehill Winery and Vineyards. The Philadelphia Flyers train at the Flyers Training Center in Voorhees, and Virtua Voorhees Hospital is on Route 73. About 62 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied, by Census estimate.
