Allenhurst is a small oceanfront borough in Monmouth County, about a quarter of a square mile between the Atlantic Ocean on the east and Deal Lake on the west. It borders Deal, Interlaken, Loch Arbour and Ocean Township. The town was built on the 120-acre farm of Abner Allen, bought in 1895 by the Coast Land Improvement Company, and was incorporated as a borough in 1897. Its train stop on the New York line helped it grow as a resort.

Many of the grand homes from that era still stand. The Allenhurst Residential Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010, includes 412 contributing buildings in styles from Queen Anne and Shingle to Tudor Revival, Prairie and Colonial Revival, and a local historic preservation commission reviews changes to older homes. The borough owns the Allenhurst Beach Club, with a large saltwater pool filled from the ocean, and there is a small downtown business district and a lakefront park and playground on Deal Lake.
