Atlantic Highlands is a borough on the Monmouth County bayshore, where Sandy Hook Bay and Raritan Bay meet the bayshore hills. Mount Mitchill Scenic Overlook, 266 feet above the water, looks out over Sandy Hook to the New York skyline and holds Monmouth County's 9/11 Memorial. Below it, the municipal harbor holds berths, a yacht club, charter fishing boats and the Seastreak ferry terminal.

In the late 1800s, camp meetings, resort developers and builders created the town's Victorian core; the Queen Anne style Strauss Mansion from 1893 is now a museum. First Avenue is the downtown, with shops, restaurants and the First Avenue Playhouse, and Lenape Woods and the Henry Hudson Trail add woodland and a rail trail.
