Beachwood is a borough of about 2.8 square miles in Ocean County, on the Toms River between Pine Beach, South Toms River and Berkeley Township. It began in 1914 as a summer colony laid out by the publishers of the New-York Tribune, who sold 20 by 100 foot lots for $19.60, and it became its own borough in 1917.

The riverfront is where the town started: Beachwood Beach sits on the Toms River off Clubhouse Avenue, on the same shore where postcards from the 1930s and 1940s show a pier, bathing beach and yacht club. Inland, Jakes Branch County Park covers 400 acres of Pine Barrens, with a nature center topped by a five-story observation deck and more than 8 miles of trails. The borough counted 3,860 housing units in the 2020 Census.
