Hamilton Township is the most populous municipality in Mercer County, about 39 square miles bordering Trenton to the west and the Delaware River to the southwest. Rather than one downtown, it has several villages with their own commercial centers, including Hamilton Square, Mercerville, White Horse, Yardville and Groveville, along with places such as Bromley, DeCou Village, Golden Crest, Nottingham and Yardville Heights. The township was incorporated in 1842 and takes its name from the village of Hamilton Square.

Hamilton is home to Grounds For Sculpture, a 42-acre sculpture park with more than 300 works on the former New Jersey State Fairgrounds, and Sayen House and Gardens, where more than 1,000 azaleas and 250,000 bulbs bloom each spring. The 350-acre Veterans Park hosts the township's Oktoberfest, Kuser Farm Mansion is an 1892 Queen Anne country home on 22 acres, and the Isaac Watson House, built in 1708, is the oldest house in Mercer County.
