Little Silver is a Monmouth County borough of about 2.7 square miles on the Shrewsbury River, between Red Bank, Fair Haven, Rumson, Oceanport and Monmouth Beach. Once farms, nurseries and fishing, it is now mostly homes, from ranches and capes to houses on the water: about 8 percent sit directly on the river and roughly a third more on the creeks that feed it. Boaters launch from the public ramp at Dominick F. Santelle Park.

Its history is close at hand. The Parker Homestead on Rumson Road, with a main house from about 1720, belonged to the family that settled Little Silver in 1667 and is now borough-owned and on the historic registers. The sandstone train station on Sycamore Avenue, designed by Henry Hobson Richardson and opened in 1890, still serves North Jersey Coast Line trains.
