Manalapan is a township in western Monmouth County, formed in 1848 from Freehold Township and wrapped around the separate Borough of Englishtown. The Battle of Monmouth was fought here on June 28, 1778, and most of Monmouth Battlefield State Park lies in the township, with the Sutfin, Rhea-Applegate and Craig farmhouses that stood during the battle.

Manalapan was mostly farmland until the 1960s, when farms began to be developed with houses, and it now has neighborhoods such as Yorketown, Gordons Corner, Millhurst and Tennent. The Manalapan Recreation Center on Route 522 is the township's main park, and the Monmouth County Library headquarters and Knob Hill Golf Club are also in town.
