Manasquan is a borough in southern Monmouth County where the Manasquan River meets the Atlantic Ocean. The Manasquan Inlet on its southern edge divides Monmouth and Ocean counties and marks the northern end of the New Jersey Intracoastal Waterway, and its jetty shapes the surf there. The borough guards 17 beaches, from the inlet north along a boardwalk lined with beachfront homes.

Inland, Main Street and the blocks around it hold a downtown of small businesses, the 540-seat Algonquin Arts Theatre, built in 1938, and the Masonic Temple building at Main Street and Union Avenue. Two National Register landmarks sit on the water: the Squan Beach Life-Saving Station on Ocean Avenue and the Glimmer Glass Bridge, a county drawbridge on Brielle Road. Wikipedia notes that many older beach bungalows have been replaced with larger single-family homes.
