Sea Girt is a Monmouth County shore borough of about one square mile between Stockton Lake and Wreck Pond, bordered by Manasquan, Spring Lake, Spring Lake Heights and Wall Township. It began as a resort in 1875 on land that had been Commodore Robert F. Stockton's estate, and became a borough in 1917.

The beach and boardwalk are open year-round, with the boardwalk running from the Sea Girt Lighthouse to the south end of town. The lighthouse, a red brick house with a 44-foot tower first lit in 1896, is open for Sunday tours. The borough is also home to the New Jersey National Guard training center, once the state's "Summer Capital," the National Guard Militia Museum of New Jersey and the New Jersey State Police Academy.
