Union Beach is a borough of under 2 square miles on Raritan Bay, on the northern shore of Monmouth County between Keyport and Keansburg. Its bayfront beach, restored in phases by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, looks out across the water to the New York City skyline and the Verrazzano Bridge, and a black stone September 11 memorial faces toward where the World Trade Center towers once stood.

The borough grew from farmland and early 1900s beach subdivisions, and place names such as Lorrillard Beach, Natco and Union Gardens still mark its sections. Most homes are owner-occupied, about 82 percent by Census count, and hundreds of homes were damaged or destroyed when Hurricane Sandy flooded the borough in 2012.
