Harvey Cedars is a borough on Long Beach Island in southern Ocean County, a narrow strip of barrier island that fronts the Atlantic Ocean on one side and Barnegat Bay on the other. It covers about half a square mile of land, and Long Beach Boulevard (County Route 607) runs the length of town. The borough's own history traces the name to a 1751 deed that called the spot "Harvest Quarters."

About 96 percent of the homes are single-family detached houses (Census Bureau survey, 2020 to 2024), and most housing units are seasonal homes, so the town's summer population reaches about 12,000. The early landmarks were a lifesaving station and the Harvey Cedars Hotel, a boarding hotel from about 1850. Today the borough sells beach badges from a booth in Sunset Park, and the neighborhood called High Point still gives its name to the local fire company.
