Florence Township sits on the Delaware River in Burlington County and takes in two main communities, Florence and Roebling, each with its own River LINE light rail station. The township has a handful of long-running local spots of its own, and Bordentown and Burlington City, a few stops up and down the River LINE, add sit-down restaurants, a diner and a bakery. Exploring the Culinary Delights
Dining inside Florence Township is small-town and casual: a family pizzeria and a cheesesteak and wings shop. For a bigger night out, Farnsworth Avenue in Bordentown and High Street in Burlington City are a short drive away. Hours change, and small restaurants open and close, so call ahead before you make a special trip.
In Florence Township
Rocco's Pizza & Italian Restaurant, 312 West Front Street, Florence: A family-owned pizzeria and Italian restaurant open since 1975, with pizza (buffalo chicken and pepperoni are regulars), steak sandwiches, wings and mozzarella sticks. It has a private dining room for parties.
Big Ray's Steaks, Subs & Wings, 261 Cedar Lane, Florence: Cheesesteaks and chicken cheesesteaks, wings, cheese fries and breakfast served all day.
Worth the Short Drive: Bordentown
Marcello's Coal Fired Restaurant & Pizza, 206 Farnsworth Avenue: Coal-fired pizza and Italian dishes, taking reservations. It has been under its current ownership since 2004.
Toscano Ristorante, 136 Farnsworth Avenue: An Italian restaurant with a steakhouse side, serving dry-aged steaks, seafood and house-made pasta.
Under the Moon Cafe, 210 Farnsworth Avenue: A BYO cafe from owners who came from Buenos Aires. Beef empanadas are a signature, and the menu leans toward tapas.
Town & Country Diner, 177 Route 130, where Routes 130 and 206 split: A classic diner open 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Blueberry pancakes, chicken pot pie, fish and chips and onion rings are favorites.
Worth the Short Drive: Burlington City
Burlington Diner, 637 High Street: The breakfast and lunch spot formerly known as Amy's Omelette House, open 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with big omelets and pancakes, including chocolate chip.
JB Bakery, 712 High Street: A bakery known for its cakes and cookies, open from early morning into the evening.
Things to Pair With a Meal
The Roebling Museum, at 100 2nd Avenue in Roebling, tells the story of the company town and runs a Saturday walking tour in season, which pairs well with lunch in town. Check the museum's hours before you go, since it is open only part of the week and by appointment in January and February.
Florence Township's own dining is small, but with Bordentown and Burlington City a short drive away, there is a lot within reach.
