Barnegat Township is an Ocean County township on Barnegat Bay, and most of its restaurants are spread along Main Street and East and West Bay Avenue. (Barnegat Light, on Long Beach Island, is a separate borough, so every place below is in Barnegat Township itself.) I'm Dennis Mark Interdonato with Keller Williams Realty Ocean Living, and when I help buyers look at a town, where they will eat on a weeknight matters as much as the kitchen in the house. Here is a look at places in the township that were open when this guide was updated in September 2026.
Exploring the Culinary Delights
Barnegat's restaurants cover a lot of ground for a township its size: seafood near the bay, a longtime tavern, pubs with live music, pizza, sit-down Italian, sushi, a bagel shop, a coffee shop and an all-day cafe. Hours change with the seasons at the Shore, and small restaurants open and close, so call ahead before you make a special trip.
Mouthwatering Recommendations
Culinary Classics
Lefty's Tavern, 547 North Main Street: A Barnegat standby with two sides to it, a casual tavern and a more formal dining room, plus a banquet hall. The menu is American, with burgers, local seafood, chicken and pasta. It is closed Mondays.
Sweet Jenny's, 688 East Bay Avenue: A cafe serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert every day, with breakfast from 8 a.m. Eggs Benedict and French toast are on the menu, and the dessert side runs to sundaes, shakes and ice cream sodas. In June 2026 it opened a new backyard patio.
Casual Dining and Social Hotspots
Doyle's Pour House, 345 South Main Street: A pub with smash burgers, wings, quesadillas and weekly specials, plus brunch and live bands. It keeps late hours. (There is a separate Doyle's in Tuckerton.)
Naples Italian Ristorante & Pizzeria, 550 North Main Street: Founded in 1984 by Andrea Esposito, Naples serves pizza, homemade pasta, seafood and classic Italian entrees, and it caters. It is open seven days.
Romantic Dinners and Special Occasions
Sun Harbor Seafood & Grill, 451 East Bay Avenue: A seafood restaurant with a tiki bar and live entertainment. Its events calendar runs through the fall, including all-you-can-eat snow crab nights, wine dinners and a four-course fall menu, and drunken clams are a regular on the menu.
East Bay Italian Grille, 696 East Bay Avenue: A sit-down Italian restaurant with dishes like calamari fritti, eggplant parmigiana, lasagna Bolognese, zuppa di clams and penne vodka. It also does full catering trays.
Starting the Day Right
Dolce Bagel & Deli Cafe, 830 West Bay Avenue: Bagels baked fresh daily, breakfast sandwiches, lox, chocolate chip pancakes and paninis. Its posted hours vary between sources, so check before an early run.
GNM Coffee Shop, 237 South Main Street: Opened in May 2022, with specialty coffee and lattes, matcha, house-made pastries, breakfast sandwiches and avocado toast.
Global Flavors, Local Charm
Pan Asia, 770 Lighthouse Drive: Chinese and Japanese cooking with a sushi bar, and a gluten-free menu. It has a second location in Forked River.
Worth the Short Drive
A couple of well-known spots are close by, in neighboring towns:
Il Giardino Sul Mare, 2 Hollywood Boulevard, Forked River (Lacey Township): An Italian restaurant that has been serving since 1987.
El Tenampa de Don Chante, 655 Route 72 East, Manahawkin (Stafford Township): A Mexican restaurant open since 2002.
Barnegat Township has more choice than people expect, and much of it is a short drive from the neighborhoods off Main Street and Bay Avenue. If you are thinking about buying or selling in Barnegat, I'm Dennis Mark Interdonato, and I'm glad to talk through the township with you.
